Staying Involved In Our Community

About BACB’s Services and Initiatives

Annual Commemorative Observances

January 4th is Louis Braille’s Birthday

The Literacy by Touch Festival is an annual event designed to honor the legacy of Louis Braille and promote literacy for students who are blind or have low vision. This event also promotes the continuance of Braille instruction in public schools for students who are blind.

White Cane Safety Day for the Blind is observed each year on October 15th. This day is also observed as Blind Equality Day

The month of October is observed as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

BACB Destiny Scholarship Fund

Each year, we offer an academic scholarship during the fall semester to a blind student (freshman or higher) who resides in the Beaumont area and is entering a local college, university, or vocational school. Donations assist in ensuring that the scholarship continues without interruption and could possibly assist in increasing the scholarship amount. Submit donations on our website donations page.

BACB Education Arena

We provide scheduled and on demand educational opportunities for any area resident who is blind, have low vision, or may have received a recent vision diagnosis and can benefit from accessing information, resources, and support. Call or send email by using the website contact form to request a copy of our monthly calendar of events.

Community Awareness Events

Through collaboration with other disability related organizations and agencies, we provide community awareness events on a periodic basis to assist in educating the general public about the abilities of persons with disabilities, while sharing information, resources, and community services. Call or send email by using the website contact form to request a copy of our monthly calendar of events.

Friday Night Social Hour

Area residents who are blind, have low vision, and those who are new to vision loss are invited to participate in our bi-monthly social hour held on our conference call line at 7:00PM Central. Call or send email by using the website contact form to request a copy of our monthly calendar of events. This is a great time to meet new friends or just have a good conversation on meaningful topics.
